Overview
The Sicinski lab is seeking a research technician to join the scientific team. The lab is involved in studying the role of cell cycle regulators in development and maintenance of cancer and determining therapeutic strategies based on the obtained results. The successful candidate will help with day-to-day experiments and perform scientific research of varying complexity. Duties include, but are not limited to tissue culture, isolation of DNA or RNA, protein extraction and analysis by Western Blotting and other basic molecular and cell biology techniques. General lab maintenance tasks include ordering lab supplies, and generating laboratory reagents, preparation of different plasmids and common used buffers. The person will also assist in the maintenance and care of a large lab mouse colony. This includes breeding and weaning of multiple genetic strains, PCR-based genotyping. The position will be a good learning opportunity for those interested in biomedical research.

Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
- Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas and may be responsible for ordering of supplies.
- Conduct standardized biological, microbiological or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses, including the collection of information and samples from organic substances, such as blood, drugs, and animals.
- Isolate, identify and prepare specimens for examination.
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation and presentations, and look for opportunities to co-author publications. May be expected to participate in formal and informal presentations of results to staff.
- Participate in grant application process and manuscript preparation as required.
- Maintains detailed notebook of all work-related activities.
- Monitors laboratory work to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety information as well as the standard operation procedures specific to each laboratory.
- Expected to provide intellectual and interactive commitment to position by keeping up with appropriate literature and research publications.
- May be responsible for designing and executing advanced experiments and setting strategy.
- May be responsible for the examination of animals and specimens to detect the presence of disease or other problems.
Qualifications
BA/BS required in Biology or closely related field.
Previous experience with basic cell culture and molecular biology laboratory techniques, including recombinant DNA and protein biochemistry, is preferred.
Ability to learn quickly, being well-organized, punctual and able to interact well with others.
Two year commitment.
Schedule
Full-time - 40 hours per week. Variable hours, some nights and weekends, may be required to complete experiments and meet deadlines.
